Catalina by night

The beach at night is such a cool place to be, and Catalina has a lot to offer in that department. Lots of pretty reflections of street lights and the moon on the water. The last picture is one of my favorites from the whole trip - it's a boat that has a glass compartment so the passengers are actually sitting under the water level for the ride. There was a late night underwater tour during our last night there and the colored lights of the ship with the full moon and the ominous cliff in the background gave a kind of eerie look to the whole scene. Spooky and beautiful at the same time.

Postcards from Catalina

Lots of pictures from a recent trip to Catalina island. Almost anything you could take a picture of there would turn out a pretty, like the view of the harbor and the Casino, the round building in the first picture. Higher up on the island is the Wrigley Botanical Gardens that features native plants and lots of cacti and succulents. It's a bit of a hike to get up there, but it has incredible vistas of the ocean and the mountains, and a really cool structure made out of local granite and beautiful tile. One of my favorite spots in one of my favorite places!

What I did on my summer vacation

So these pictures are more what you would see in an album of snapshots than in a gallery or my etsy shop, but there should definitely be a place for the photos I take during the moments of my real life and sometimes I want to share those too.

I had a short break from work, so my husband Matt and I took a mini-vacation to Catalina, which is a small island off the coast of Los Angeles. We first visited Catalina 3 years ago and we actually got engaged there, so it's a very sentimental spot for us and it was really fun and romantic to go back. The first picture is from our hotel room balcony - such pretty views. We were only there for 2.5 days, but we managed to cram hiking, biking, meeting up with friends, eating lots of ice cream and taking lots of pictures into that small amount of time. Vacations are never long enough, and this one was no exception. But I'm glad we got the chance to get away and we'll just have to plan another one soon.
